Build data products that drive decisions

In modern organizations, data storytelling isn’t a nice to have—it’s a mission-critical skill that connects data engineering, analytics, and business strategy. This advanced Power BI course is designed for professionals who want to go beyond building visuals, and truly architect robust analytical products. Students will work hands-on using relational data sources to design, build, and deploy complete data products—dashboards, reports, and applications—engineered to communicate clearly and drive decision making.

We will take a deep dive into dimensional modeling (facts, dimensions, star schemas); semantic model design; advanced DAX (complex measures, calculation groups, AI visuals); versioning, deployment pipelines, and ALM in Power BI Service; and building apps and governable reporting ecosystems.

This class is immersive, strategic, and applied. Students will be challenged to constantly ask why—to think like product owners, not just report authors—and learn how analytics, modeling, and visualization converge to produce intelligence that is reliable, scalable, and persuasive.By the end, students will not just “build charts.” They will create data products that influence outcomes.

Is this course for you?

This course is designed for anyone with experience querying and analyzing data who wants to take their data visualization skills to the next level. It is a fit if:

  • You have experience with relational databases, at least one data visualization tool, and performing basic data analysis
  • You work with data and want to go beyond basic reports and charts. If you’re ready to move past simple spreadsheets and static visuals, this course will help you turn raw data into clear, compelling insights and tell powerful stories with data using Power BI.

What will the course cover?

  • ETL and Data Integration
Work with both clean and messy real-world datasets, using Power Query to extract, transform, and integrate data so it’s ready for reliable analysis and reporting.
  • Data Modeling for Analytics
Learn how to structure data using facts, dimensions, and star schemas so your reports are fast, reliable, and built on a solid analytical foundation.
  • Advanced DAX for Powerful Insights
Go beyond simple calculations by building advanced measures, handling filter context, and creating dynamic calculations that answer real business questions.
  • Interactive Reports and User Experiences
Build reports that users can explore through drill-through pages, buttons, bookmarks, and dynamic visuals that respond to their questions.
  • Designing Clear and Compelling Dashboards
Apply data storytelling and UX principles to design dashboards that communicate insights clearly and guide stakeholders to the right conclusions.
  • From Reports to Data Products
Learn how to architect full analytical solutions—semantic models, reports, and apps—that serve multiple stakeholders across an organization.
  • Publishing, Governance, and Deployment in Power BI Service
Understand how to deploy and manage Power BI solutions using workspaces, apps, and versioning practices that support collaboration and scale.

How will you learn the material?

Hands-on Learning
Students actively engage in hands-on exercises and projects as opposed to being passively lectured to. Students leave with a deeper understanding of the subject matter and are ready to apply their new skills on the job.
Live Online Learning
Students have the opportunity to interact as a class, in smaller working groups and one-on-one with the instructor in a live virtual classroom.
Independent Learning
Expect approximately 1-2 hours of independent study per week, including practical assignments.
Interview Simulation
You will practice speaking about the concepts you learn to deepen your understanding and prepare for professional conversations, including interviews.
